How to Apply for the Warmer Homes Scheme

Key facts: Average value €29,000 · Fully free — no cost to you · Covers insulation, heat pump, solar and more · Waiting list 18–24 months · Apply at seai.ie

What is the Warmer Homes Scheme?

The Warmer Homes Scheme is a government-funded programme that provides a free deep retrofit of your home. It is fully funded — meaning there is no cost to the homeowner at any stage. The average value of work completed under the scheme is approximately €29,000 per home. This typically includes attic insulation, external or internal wall insulation, heat pump installation, solar PV, and new windows and doors.

Who qualifies?

To qualify for Warmer Homes you must:

  • Own and live in the property as your primary home
  • Receive one of the qualifying payments: Fuel Allowance, One-Parent Family Payment, Job Seeker's Allowance (over 6 months), Disability Allowance, Invalidity Pension, Carer's Allowance, or Blind Pension
  • Have a home with a BER of E, F or G (lower-rated homes are prioritised)

The waiting list

The Warmer Homes Scheme has a current waiting list of 18–24 months from the date of application. This means you should apply as soon as possible. Applying today means your home could be upgraded by late 2026 or early 2027. You will be placed on the list and SEAI will contact you when your turn comes. You do not need to do anything else after applying.

How to apply

Apply directly at seai.ie/home-energy/warmer-homes-scheme. You will need your MPRN (electricity meter number, found on your bill), proof of your qualifying payment, and your Eircode. The application takes approximately 20 minutes. While you wait, you can still apply for standard Better Energy Homes grants for measures not covered by Warmer Homes.
