Getting paid for solar export
Ireland's Clean Export Guarantee (CEG) requires all major electricity suppliers to pay you for electricity you export to the grid. This has been in place since 2022.
Current export rates (April 2026): Electric Ireland 24c/kWh · Energia 21c/kWh · Bord Gáis 22c/kWh · SSE Airtricity 20c/kWh. Rates change — check switcher.ie for the current best rate.
How to get registered: Your installer submits an NC6 form to ESB Networks. ESB Networks upgrades your meter to a smart meter. You then contact your electricity supplier and ask to activate the Clean Export Guarantee on your account. Payments appear on your quarterly bill.
If you haven't received payments yet: Call your supplier and ask if your export is registered. Many homeowners are being paid nothing simply because nobody told them to activate it.
