Always verify your contractor is currently SEAI registered before signing any contract. Registration status can change.

Some contractors may ask for a deposit to cover materials, especially for heat pumps and solar. What matters is protecting yourself: get a written contract before paying anything, tie the final payment to completion of the work, and never pay the full amount upfront. Pay by traceable means, not cash.

Consumer cancellation rights depend on how the contract was formed: online and phone purchases generally have a 14-day cancellation period; unsolicited doorstep sales have a 30-day period. Arranged off-premises visits and certain contract types have different rules. If you ask the contractor in writing to begin work during a cancellation period, you may lose some or all of this right. Check your specific situation before signing.
