NC6 grid connection & export registration

The NC6 form (also called a Network Connection Application) is submitted by your solar installer to ESB Networks to notify them of your new solar system. Without it, you cannot legally export to the grid or claim Clean Export Guarantee payments.

Your installer is required by law to submit this within 30 days of completing your installation. If they haven't, they are in breach of their SEAI registration requirements.

Timeline after NC6: ESB Networks acknowledges within 10 working days. A smart meter upgrade is usually scheduled within 1–3 months. Export payments begin after meter activation.

Ask your contractor for the NC6 reference number. This is a unique ID starting with NC6-. If they cannot provide it after 6 weeks, escalate to SEAI.

Contact ESB Networks directly: Call 1800 372 757 or email microgeneration@esb.ie. Give them your MPRN (on your electricity bill) and ask if an NC6 has been submitted for your address.
