Boiler scrappage grant and home battery grant

Free. Takes about 2 minutes.

Budget 2027 is on Tuesday 6 October 2026. It may add further changes to these grants. We will update this page when the details are confirmed.

The €2,000 boiler scrappage grant

What it is. A grant of €2,000 when you scrap a fossil fuel heating system, such as an oil or gas boiler, and switch to a heat pump or other renewable heating.

Who qualifies. Your home must have been built before 2021. SEAI has not yet published the full rules on who qualifies or how to apply. Awaiting final details from SEAI

How it works with the heat pump grant. The heat pump grant is worth up to €12,500. The scrappage grant is paid on top of that. A home that gets the full heat pump grant and the scrappage grant could get up to €14,500 in total.

If you already have a heat pump application in progress. The Government says eligible homeowners with a heat pump application already in progress will get the extra €2,000. SEAI has not yet said whether you need to do anything.

When it starts. Awaiting final details from SEAI Check the SEAI page below before you book any work.

Do not remove your boiler yet

Under SEAI's current home energy grants, you must have grant approval before you buy anything or start work. If work starts before approval, you lose the grant. Wait until SEAI publishes the scrappage grant rules.

The €600 home battery grant

What it is. A grant of €600 towards a home battery. A home battery stores electricity so you can use it later.

Why it is new. Until now, SEAI has given grants for solar panels but not for home batteries on their own.

Who qualifies. Awaiting final details from SEAI We do not yet know whether you need solar panels, what size of battery is covered, or whether there is a rule on when your home was built.

When it starts. The Government says it opens from 6 October 2026, subject to final arrangements.
